California releases updated surety bond form for immigration consultants

imigration

In April of 2015, the California Secretary of State made minor revisions to the immigration consultant surety bond form that has been in effect since 2013. While the only notable change is a different mailing address for the Secretary of State (obligee), it is important to understand that the previous 2013 bond form is now officially considered outdated.

Individuals looking to post an immigration consultant bond in California should now send the executed form as well as the filing fee to the new listed address:

California Secretary of State

P.O. Box 942870

Sacramento, CA 94277-2870

All previously recognized regulations and conditions stated in the bond form have remained unchanged. Those who currently operate under those same conditions should continue to do so as normal. For specific details on these regulations, please refer to Section 22440-22449 of the Business and Professions Code.

Immigration consultant surety bonds exist to protect those who seek non-legal, professional advice and assistance from those trained to handle immigration affairs. If it is discovered that an individual has been mistreated or financially harmed as a result of malpractice or unethical behavior at the hand of the principal, consumers will not suffer from any unjustified financial harm.
