Kansas establishes microdistillery surety bond requirement

Microdistillery Surety Bond

Kansas HB 2689, which went into effect July 1, made it possible for microdistillery owners to obtain legal operating licenses. As a part of the licensing process, owners must obtain a $2,000 Kansas microdistillery surety bond.

According to the Kansas Department of Revenue,

“The Microdistillery license allows the manufacture and storage of not more than 50,000 gallons of spirits per year; the sale of spirits manufactured by the licensee in the original unopened container to be consumed off the licensed premise; and, free samples provided on the licensed premise and at special events monitored and regulated by the ABC.”

License and permit surety bonds are required by different government agencies before professionals can obtain some kinds of licenses or permits. Microdistilleries, for example, need licenses to legally manufacture and sell their products.
