How Do I Get a Public Adjuster License in Pennsylvania?

To get a public adjuster license in Pennsylvania, follow these six steps:

Step 1: Register with the state

All residents need to register with the Department of State. Requirements vary for nonresident business entities, the Department will provide instructions after you apply. 

If you’re registering as a business entity, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department must also approve your entity name

Step 2: Pass an exam

State residents must pass the Pennsylvania public adjuster exam with a score of 70%. Nonresident applicants with a reciprocal license are exempt from the exam requirement. 

Register online via the PSI website and pay the $43 exam fee. 

Step 3: Purchase a bond

Both resident and nonresident adjusters must file a $20,000 surety bond. This protects clients from financial harm due to fraudulent or negligent public insurance adjusters.

Step 4: Submit application

How to Renew Your Public Claims Adjuster License 

Your license will remain active for two years and expire at the end of your birth month. 

All resident adjusters must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE), including three hours of ethics.  Then, you can renew online via Sircon or NIPR and pay the $200 standard renewal fee or the $400 lapsed renewal fee.

How Hard Is the Public Insurance Adjuster Exam?
