How much does a professional solicitor and fundraiser counsel bond cost in Ohio?

The Ohio Attorney General requires professional solicitors to post $25,000 surety bonds prior to conducting business.

Because these bonds are subject to surety underwriting consideration, the premium rate you’ll pay depends on a review of your personal credit report. Qualified applicants could pay as little as $250 for their bonds.

Why do I need this bond?

Ohio professional solicitor surety bonds guarantee that principals (professional solicitors or fund-raising counsels) conduct business in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 1716 of the Ohio Revised Code. If the principal violates any of the terms of the surety bond agreement - such as using funds solicited for reasons other than for the charity intended - the bond protects harmed parties from financial loss up to the full penal sum of the bond ($25,000). The principal is responsible for paying the surety back for any damages paid out.

What’s the fine print?

Professional solicitor and fund-raiser counsel bonds in Ohio remain in full force and effect as long as the principal adheres to the terms of the surety bond contract. The surety can cancel the bond at any time by giving written notice of cancellation to the Attorney General via certified mail at least 30 days prior to the effective cancellation/termination date.
