How Does a New Jersey Promoter Bond Work?
A New Jersey combative sports promoter bond forms a legal contract between these three parties.

How to Become a Combative Sports Promoter in New Jersey
To apply for your promoter license, submit the following to the SACB:
- Completed application form and $300 fee
- Bond form
- Matchmaker application and $100 fee
- Most current tax return
- Digital photo ID and headshot
Before holding an event, you’ll need to send a written request to the SACB that includes the following:
- Names of the main event fighters
- A BoxRec profile link for each boxer
- Name of your contact person (liaison)
- The event's date, time and location
Once the date is approved, you’ll need to submit any remaining information, such as names of officials and a certificate of insurance. The SACB has to receive all required documents at least 72 hours before the event.
Licenses are valid for one year from July 1 to June 30. You must keep your bond and license active to continue to hold events.
How Much Do I Have to Pay Each Official?
As a promoter, you’re responsible for paying all event officials. Their individual salaries depend on the event’s gross receipts.

If your event earns more than $300,000 in ticket sales, the Commissioner will determine each official’s fees.
Additionally, you'll need to budget for these personnel costs:
- Ringside physicians must be paid at least $300
- Inspectors must be paid at least $100
- Announcers negotiate their pay directly with you
Keep in mind that championships and other special events may have different compensation rates, as determined by the Commissioner.
