Why do I need this bond?
Pennsylvania athlete agent bonds are put in place to ensure that athlete agents adhere to all parts of the Pennsylvania Uniform Athlete Agents Act. Specifically, this bond ensures the payment of damages suffered by any person as a result of an athlete agent’s intentional or unintentional faulty business practices.
What’s the fine print?
This bond is required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission. Athlete agent bonds are effective for one year from the date of issuance. If the surety chooses to cancel the bond, 30 days notice prior to cancellation must be given to the state.
When filling out the bond form, be prepared to provide your full name and address. If the principal (agent or agency) is a partnership, all partners must be listed on the bond.
How to become an athlete agent in Pennsylvania
An athlete agent must register with the Commonwealth before they can start doing business. The application must be submitted on a form supplied by the State Athletic Commission and must be accompanied by the following:
- $200 for an initial application for registration of an individual or $400 for a partnership
- $100 processing fee
- Surety bond
- Results of a criminal background check
- Completed affidavit
