How Do I Renew My Notary Bond?

Utah notary bonds last for four years. If you renew your notary commission, you’ll also need to renew the surety bond.

How to Become a Notary Public in Utah

First, make sure you meet the following qualifications to be a notary in Utah: 

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a U.S citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a Utah resident
  • Be fluent in English

Then, use the Utah Notary Public Study Guide and Handbook to prepare for and pass the state exam.

How to Become a Remote Notary in Utah

You must already be a commissioned notary public in Utah before completing the following steps to become an RON.

  1. Contract with an approved vendor to conduct remote notarizations.
  2. Increase your bond amount to $10,000 by contacting your bonding company.
  3. Get your electronic signature/seal from a vendor. 
  4. Submit your application and bond form through the online notary request portal.
  5. Complete a background check, if needed. 
  6. Pay the $50 application fee. 

Once approved, you will be identified as a remote notary in the state system.
