What is the purpose of a California LLC employee/worker bond? 

California Business and Professions Code Section 7071.6.5 requires that contractors structured as a limited liability company file a $100,000 surety bond before their California contractor license can be issued, reissued, reinstated, reactivated, or renewed. The state's official bond form 13B-20 is titled “LLC Employee/Worker Bond” but is also known as the “California LLC contractor bond.” This bond protects workers employed by or contracted to work for limited liability companies that hold a California contractor license.

Why is a California LLC employee/worker bond required?

According to California Business and Professions Code, this California surety bond specifically benefits employees damaged by their employer’s failure to pay wages, interest on wages, or fringe benefits. If a licensed and bonded LLC contractor fails to make payments as required, the LLC contractor's issuing surety company will pay valid claims up to the full $100,000 bond amount, which the LLC contractor must reimburse.

Who regulates licensing for LLC contractors?

The California Department of Consumer Affairs Contractors State Licensing Board enforces licensing requirements for LLC contractors.
