How Does a Hawaii AMC Bond Work?
By purchasing an AMC bond, you enter a legal agreement between three parties.
| Bond Party | Description |
|---|---|
| 1. Principal | You, the licensed appraisal management company |
| 2. Obligee | The Hawaii DCCA |
| 3. Surety | The issuing surety provider |
If you fail to comply with Hawaii law, harmed parties can file a claim on the bond for financial compensation. The surety will investigate and pay for valid claims. Then, you must reimburse the surety.

Hawaii defines a “controlling person” as an officer, director, or owner employed or appointed by the AMC with at least 10% interest. This person manages the AMC with the authority to do the following:
- Manage AMC policies
- Enter contracts with services requiring registration as an AMC
- Enter agreements with appraisers to perform appraisals
The controlling person must submit form AMC-04 and get a criminal history record check through Fieldprint Inc. to be approved.
Then, complete the following steps to get your Hawaii AMC license:
- Purchase a $25,000 surety bond
- Complete the application form
- Provide proof of LLC/LLP registration, if applicable
- Attach a copy of your trade name registration application, if applicable
- Provide processes and controls materials
- Pay the appropriate fees
- Pass the examination
- Mail in your application packet with all attached forms
If your AMC is not located in Hawaii, you’ll need to complete an irrevocable consent to service form and submit a letter of good standing from the state your AMC is located. These forms must be attached to your application.
