How Does a Wyoming Private School Performance Bond Work?
Like all private school bonds, this bond forms a legal contract between you, the state and the surety.

How to Get a Private Postsecondary School License in Wyoming
All proprietary schools in Wyoming must be licensed with the Department of Education. First, get a $10,000 surety bond or letter of credit. Then, gather the following documents:
- Mission statement
- List of administrators, faculty and staff
- Projected financial statement
- Enrollment contract with tuition fees and refund policy
- Probationary academic/discipline policy
- Attendance record form
- Description of instructional methods
- Course outline for each course
- Sample graduation certificate
- Business license, zoning approval and fire/safety or occupancy inspections

What If I’m Not in Wyoming, But I Solicit Students There?
Under Wyoming Statute 21-2-403, anyone who solicits Wyoming resident students on behalf of a school must be licensed as an agent by the WDE. This includes career fairs and school visits.
Even if your school is located in a different state, you may still need a Wyoming private school license. Contact the WDE to confirm what applies to your school.
You can include any agents in your school’s initial license application. If you add a representative between renewals, the WDE has a separate application.
